چکیده

The current status of the isoscalar giant dipole resonance (ISGDR) is reviewed. Over the past few years, experiments done with small-angle alpha scattering have provided the best evidence yet for this resonance and the experimental ISGDR strength distributions are reasonably well established in a number of nuclei. The implications of the experimental observations on the determination of the nuclear incompressibility are discussed, particularly in light of the recent theoretical results on the compressional modes.

Theoretical understanding of the nuclear incompressibility : where do we stand ?

The status of the theoretical research on the compressional modes of finite nuclei and the incompressibility K∞ of nuclear matter, is reviewed. It is argued that the recent experimental data on the Isoscalar Giant Monopole Resonance (ISGMR) allow extracting the value of K∞ with an uncertainity of about ± 12 MeV. Non-relativistic (Skyrme, Gogny) and relativistic mean field models predict for K∞ ...

Polarization associated with the coupling to isoscalar dipole compression mode

The effect of core polarization on isoscalar dipole one-particle moments due to the coupling with isoscalar giant dipole resonance ~compression mode! is estimated. Numerical calculations with the core nucleus 82 Pb126 show that a small enhancement of one-particle moments is obtained, of which the magnitude depends sensitively on relevant one-particle orbitals. The results are important for a mi...
